    Degenerative skeletal disorders, such as osteoporosis and arthritis, involve the progressive deterioration of bones and joints. Osteoporosis results from decreased bone density and structural deterioration, leading to fragile bones that fracture easily (NIH, 2021). Osteoarthritis occurs when cartilage cushioning the joints wears down, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. Rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune condition, causes joint inflammation and erosion, often affecting multiple joints symmetrically. These disorders impair mobility, limit daily activities, and reduce overall quality of life. Without early intervention, joint deformities and chronic pain can significantly worsen, making management more complex.

    Environmental factors can contribute to the onset or progression of these disorders. Low calcium and vitamin D intake impair bone strength over time. Sedentary lifestyles reduce mechanical loading on bones, accelerating bone loss. Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption weaken bone tissue and hinder repair processes. Ultimately, integrating medical, physical, and environmental strategies can significantly improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
